Autumn Woodland workshop
‘the secret life of trees’
Taking place at our private woodland site on the grounds of Gilbert White’s House, Selborne, Hampshire, we will be delivering a hands-on workshop session, exploring trees, time and the woodland web, suitable for home-educating families with children 7-14 years old.
Friday 23rd October - 10am-2pm
A woodland isn’t just a collection of trees. It is a living system where trees, fungi, animals, dead wood, soil, weather, and people are all connected.
What happens to a woodland when autumn arrives?
Join us for a hands-on autumn woodland adventure, exploring the hidden life of our native trees and the creatures, fungi and processes that keep a woodland alive.
With Nature Connection at the heart of this session, we’ll explore the changing woodland through the eyes of a tree, investigate autumn leaves and seeds, discover the surprising importance of dead wood, and look for evidence of the many animals and organisms that call the woodland home.
There will be plenty of opportunities for children to explore, ask questions and make discoveries for themselves. There will also be opportunities to undertake seasonal nature-based art and crafts, using naturally fallen materials and resources prepared from the autumnal woodland.
The session will also provide time to pause, reflect, and connect with nature.
Expect a mixture of: Woodland Exploration / Nature Connection / Tree Science / Nature Investigation / Fungi & Decomposition / Deadwood Discovery / Seasonal nature-based Art & Craft
Standard Ticket. The cost of each session is £20 per child, inclusive of 1 Child & 1 Adult attending.
Sibling Tickets cost £12 per additional child. Please note, the sibling ticket does not permit another adult to attend the session. For families with two or more children attending, and would like an additional adult to attend, please buy additional standard tickets instead, to cover the children/adults in your booking. Please ensure you purchase the sibling ticket at the same time as purchasing the standard ticket. Please add any sibling info to the consent form attached to the standard ticket. Please do not buy a sibling ticket without purchasing a standard ticket, as this will invalidate the booking. We need to carefully manage the numbers of people on site at any one time, so please get in touch if you feel an additional adult is required to support with a single child booking.
These sessions run with smaller group numbers of approx. 10-15 children.
The sessions are delivered outdoors in our private woodland site, and families should come prepared for spending several hours outdoors in autumn weather, with suitable waterproof clothing and footwear. These sessions will be delivered in all weathers (tarps are used to provide shelter from any rain) except extremely strong winds (in line with our Terms and Conditions of Booking). The woodland site we use is a natural environment with associated terrain and features.
Full joining info, incl. arrival details, what to bring, etc. will be provided 48 hours prior to the session taking place.
